History & Mission

Our History

Alpha Pregnancy Center was one of the first pregnancy centers in the state of South Carolina. It was started over nearly 30 years ago off of Bacon’s Bridge Road in Summerville by Nancy Mixson and her husband Dewey. The Mixson’s daughter Taryn Moorer is now the director of the center. The current Alpha Pregnancy Center was founded in 1990 at its Summerville location on Farmington Road.

On July 20, 2013 we were excited to announce the start of a new chapter in the story of Alpha Pregnancy Center. After 23 years serving the Summerville area, we were given an opportunity to move to a new location in off of Remount Road in North Charleston which would allow us to further extend our services to those in need of them. After many renovations and prayers the center finally announced the opening of our new location on May 12, 2014.

Our Ministry to Women

Alpha PC is many things, but first and foremost it is Christians demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ to women. Every woman in a crisis pregnancy has spiritual needs as well as physical ones. Jesus Christ desires to meet them all. Therefore, Alpha PC offers to explain the Gospel to women seeking assistance. Our volunteers are trained to express Christ’s love and offer of forgiveness to our clients through word and deed.

More About The Organization

Alpha PC is locally organized and funded and is governed by a local board of directors. An executive director manages a staff who counsel with women over the phone and in person. The center is housed in a facility easily accessible to the community.
